How many panes? That is the question that everyone asks when we tell them about a project recently completed. Taking a full year to complete, the works consisted of removing all the glass from a large set of Thomas Messenger Greenhouses that were being fully refurbished/repaired and then reinstating the glass – being new toughened safety glass, with one house re-glazed in the original glass. Each piece had to be individually measured, with hundreds of shaped panels templated. Using traditional linseed oil putty, the windows were putty faced, and the roof glazing finished externally with a Heritage Putty. The main corridor is 88 metres long with 3 large Plant Houses and 6 Forcing Houses all connected to the south elevation. The site is currently occupied by a leading Garden Centre. In total over 1300m2 of glass was installed totalling around 8000 individual pieces.
